Rodger Perrin

Rodger established in Baltimore with expertise in the restoration of fine instruments after working at the firm of Bein & Fushi in Chicago. He was one of the original graduates of the violin making program at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, in 1987 where he later returned to serve on the faculty up until his opening of Perrin & Associates in 1994.

In addition to restorations at the highest level- he also offers fine instrument expertise and tonal adjustments involving the sound post, bridge, alignment and string selection.

These adjustments bring some of the best instruments in the region to peak levels of performance.

 

Carolyn Foulkes

Carolyn has been a luthier and the bow specialist at Perrin & Associates for the past twenty years. Her training includes the Violin Craftsmanship Institute at the University of New Hampshire with Horst Kloss, bow making with Rodney Mohr, bow restoration with Lynn Hannings and participation in the Oberlin Bow Restoration Workshops. Carolyn also serves as the “Bow Doctor” at the annual Viola da Gamba Society of America Conclave, providing expert bow rehairs and repairs throughout the event.

She holds a B.M. from the Oberlin Conservatory, a Licentiate Diploma in Conducting from the Guildhall School of Music in London, and performance degrees from both the Peabody Conservatory and the Royal Academy of Music in London. As a performer, Carolyn has played with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Opera Orchestra, and the Baltimore Baroque Band. She also dedicated 26 years to teaching at the Baltimore School for the Arts.

Carolyn’s particular passion is restoring older instruments to baroque specifications and offering them at affordable prices to young professionals. Her instruments and bows can be viewed at baroquestrings.com

Judson Deitrich

Judson joined our shop in 2026 after a 12-year career teaching and performing. He holds a Bachelors of Music degree in viola performance from the New England Conservatory, and a Masters degree in Music and Human Learning from UT Austin. A native of Ellicott City, Judson is a former Howard County orchestra teacher and faculty member at Peabody Prep, and also worked for the BSO’s Orchkids program as a teaching artist.

Judson was a former full-time member of the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and a substitute with the Royal Bangkok and Harrisburg Symphony Orchestras. He has completed Rodney Mohr’s bow rehair workshop and Hans Nebel’s instrument set-up class.
